As a native of the Washington, DC, area, Sharp's work is guided by that scene's multi-genre link between soul, rock, R&B, funk, and hip-hop. Also, his current signing to Prescription Songs as a songwriter comes from his mentor, Lunchmoney Lewis' work with artists favored by that collective in the past decade, including Fifth Harmony, Jessie J, and Nicki Minaj.
A growing catalog of Brown Liquor Music’s original songs, including "Renege," "Stomp and Holler," and "Wanderlust," showcases how he’s inspired the band's unique lyrical and musical arrangements.

"One day, my neighbor made a joke that I was most talented at grabbing my guitar and making 'brown liquor music,' and it stuck," Sharp continues.
In 2017, The Root defined "brown liquor music" as harmonious, bass-driven music that "evokes a mournful or libidinous mood."
